The front page Alfa article made me think about my favorite auto-only vehicles. What are yours?

Regular Oppo people: NONE I HATE AUTOS
Me, an intellectual: My good man, I would be here all day long trying to list every single individual car that I believe is superior due to their lack of a barbaric manual transmission.

In reality, I do enjoy a lot of cars that don’t have manuals, so I’ll just say the new CTS-V for now.

C63 AMG, Mercedes never really did a stick in the performance cars, the 190e 2.3 notwithstanding.

I’ll take the Rolls and i8, you get the rest. Fair?

Hngggg. I’m still holding out hope that a certain Seattle Oppo makes a triumphant return with one of these

Probably the Giulia Quadrifoglio, but I’ll probably never get to drive one.

The gla45 AMG is one of my favorite cars period at the moment, but those two are certainly up there as well. Might as well throw in the Evo too

That really is a special car. Presence and character that’s decidedly lacking in most competitors.

I would love an AMG Benz, I just can’t afford one and an M car, and to be honest I prefer the M car.

A manual R8 is my semi-realistic “exotic car” purchase later in life. Hngggg. I like all your picks, but hold on. Can a 911 turbo seriously not be had with a stick?
![]() 12/31/2017 at 16:08 |

R35 with a 6 speed. Huh. I don’t know what it is, but there’s no other car I struggle to see with a manual than the Gt-r. It would be fantastic...

I feel obligated to say; sc400. But most luxury cars would be better with a manual option since they tend to be rwd and powerful

Of all possible automatics
E63S AMG wagon
But if I’m honest, any modern AMG qualifies for me

I forgot - can you get a Gallardo with a stick? That’s something I’d actually like to own.

The new Alpine. Such a shame it’s auto-only.
I couldn’t care less about.most others.

Regarding the i8, is there any hybrid with a manual? Sounds really hard to make that work. I also think the Atlas manual take rate would be 0.05% if it had one.

They should be kept automatic only.
I prefer them that way myself.
The manual V6 Cayenne, on the other hand...

One of my cars is a 1998 Volvo V70 T5 Manual. Its reliability is about what I would expect for a 20 year old car, so I am ready to replace it with something new (or at least newer), ideally a manual wagon. The best replacement I can find is a Golf Sportwagen. I really do like the Golf, but the lease deals on the V90 are great right now. Too bad about that missing pedal.
![]() 12/31/2017 at 21:54 |

As a manual purist... I could see myself taking an autobox for a special order v90 wagon

Ordinarily, I would at least consider an automatic. But, my somewhat odd situation is:
- my wife likes automatics
- my wife likes driving the BRZ
- therefore my BRZ is an automatic
And:
- my wife doesn’t like driving wagons or other “big cars”
- therefore my wagon(s) shalt be manuals
Maybe a little silly, but I don’t mind.

Yes. It is really annoying that BMW doesn’t sell the 3-series wagon with 3 pedals in the USA anymore.

While I’m dreaming, what I really want is a Lexus LS460 manual wagon. It would be like a modern manual-transmission Buick Roadmaster with better reliability.

I’m fond of this one.
But I’m also excited about the new Polestar thingamajig. And you can’t get an RS3 with a manual, can you?

How is the auto Brz?
That’s not a bad deal... Auto enthusiast car and manual wagon. But yikes, there aren’t too many options left. Few years old allroad?
![]() 01/02/2018 at 19:37 |
|
Or... This is a bit out there but there are quite a few manual wagons you could import nowadays, and still be ahead in price vs a v90 or even the golf

I like the auto BRZ. It’s not as good as a dual-clutch, but the transmission does its job with minimal fuss. Overall, it is the most entertaining car I have owned.
I have a weird philosophy on transmission choice: I like a boring car to have a manual, and I like an engaging car to have an automatic. This way, I usually have the “right” amount of things to pay attention to while driving.

There’s a polestar wagon I see regularly around Kirkland/redmond. The signature blue, hypersilver wheels and based off of the sounds I heard the one time I saw it and a GT3 racing on a freeway over 100... Somewhat modded as well. Such a beautiful car, would love to get behind the wheel.
Same goes for the AMG though! I don’t think we can get a stick over here for the RS3. Not having one for the tt-rs bothers me a lot more though
![]() 01/02/2018 at 22:12 |

Hmm... do you have any interesting examples in mind of manual wagons that would be good to import?
![]() 01/03/2018 at 14:29 |

Mitsubishi Legnum Vr4
Awd, manual and possibly all wheel steering. Shares parts with the galant and with the 3000gt.
Nissan avenir (possibly the tarted up gt4 version as well, can’t find when that went into production)
And I would imagine tons of euro-spec bmw’s that we didn’t get as a wagon or with a manual. Ask Oppo for more, I’ve seen a few “cars we can import” lists over the years and I’m definitely missing a lot of the options

I saw one in downtown Mill Creek (don’t judge me) last month. It was a V50? or V70? wagon. In that bright bright blue-green color.

I can’t even think of what area is considered downtown Mill Creek. Is that where the Thrashers Corner bar is..?
So pretty. I wonder if the rear hatch design is as awkward to use as it looks

No, it’s the strip mall on the corner of BE-Highway and 152nd ST SW.
